Tips For Building Your Online Internet Business

There are many challenges in having an online business, the greatest of which is advertising. An online business lacks the customer service opportunities a business with a physical location has. It’s difficult to choose the right advertising method for your new business. Proper design, proper venues, and proper methods are all integral to putting your business in the eye of as many potential consumers as possible. Researching advertising methods will also enable market research, better preparing a new entrepreneur for a plan on how to conquer the demands of the online business world.

Here are some tips to starting a successful, well advertised online business:

1. Start small. Don’t let your first effort be your most expensive. Your required capital and your experience should have a directly proportional relationship. Make your mistakes when the cost isn’t large enough to put you out of business forever.

2. Find a mentor. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel; benchmark your business plan and advertising campaign against an already successful venture. Learning from others’ mistakes will help you make less of your own.

3. Do your research. From concept to production, it’s important you conduct thorough research at every step. The online business market is an ever-changing realm; research will keep you current, as well as keep you in tune with your target market.

4. Manage your time. Make a schedule and stick to it. Give yourself a block of time to conduct research and prepare your plan, and give yourself a bigger block of time to execute your plan. With so many distractions available on the internet, it takes a disciplined entrepreneur to stick to the plan and produce a business.

5. No online business is an island. Work with your affiliates and become familiar with their products. If you’re both selling products, arrange for mutual promotions. These will double the traffic for both businesses.

6. Know where to go. No entrepreneur has all the answers, but every entrepreneur should know where to go to get them. Know what tools you’ll need and where to find them when it’s time to execute your business plan. Having your resources handy will streamline your business plan and ensure a successful online advertising campaign.

Norio De Sousa asked:

Marketing an online business is quite different to offline marketing. Once you know what some of the differences are you can figure out more effective ways and means of marketing your business online.

Here is a shortlist of some of the differences between online marketing and offline marketing.

No Passers-by

In some offline businesses, you get people walking past your shop. Oftentimes these people will come in out of curiosity or a particular need that they feel at that time.

Web sites have no such luxury. You have to work at giving people to come into your “store”. People aren’t going to visit your web site just because it’s there. You need to find ways of convincing people to come and see what it’s all about.

People Search for Solutions, Not Companies

Potential clients will often open up the Yellow Pages and search for a company in a specific industry, for example: plumbers, hairdressers and so on.

On the Internet people search for solutions to their problems. So, instead of searching for a cleaning agent of some sort, they might search for “getting red wine off carpets”.

Instead of searching for a real estate agent, they might rather search for properties in a particular area. For example they might search for, “properties for sale Johannesburg”, or something like that.

Once you understand and embrace this difference you can structure your web site in such a way that it offers the information that people are looking for. That might sound obvious enough but you’d be surprised how many people get it wrong.

One example of getting it wrong would be to spend all of your time, energy and Web space on describing your company, the people that work for you and your previous clients. What you should be doing is explaining how you solve the particular problem that you solve.

People Can Compare Products at the Click of a Button

The Internet has made it possible for people to quickly and easily research a purchase before making a decision.

This has changed the way people shop because, now, you no longer have to deal with a salesperson ramming their products down your throat while you’re in front of them. These days, if you don’t like what you’re seeing, you can simply search again or “walk away” with out feeling any guilt.

The point I’m trying to make is that you’d better be nice to the people that visit your web site because, otherwise, they’ll simply move on and forget all about you!

You’ve got to make sure that you provide good information on the products you sell because, if someone is shopping around on the Internet, they probably have three to five other web sites opened to compare to yours.

You Can Easily Grab Their Contact Details

People aren’t likely to just give you their contact details. You usually have to give them something in return like a chance to win something in a competition.

In the online world you can quite easily get somebody’s e-mail address in return for some information pertaining to the use of your product.

For example you can request People’s e-mail addresses and send them a report on the benefits of drinking mineral water if that’s what you sell.

No matter what industry you’re in, there’s always something that your target market would like to know that could make their lives easier.

For example, if you sell to big corporates, you can provide a report on how to select the right supplier for the specific product or service you have on offer.

In other words, if you sell large computer systems to banks you could offer a report targeted at the purchasers telling them how buying from a supplier with specific credentials can result in lower costs and happier bosses.

Once you have their details you can keep in contact with them whenever you have a new product line that might be of interest to that particular client or type of client.

It’s Easier to Track Results

How do you know that your latest printed pamphlets are working better than previous versions? There are ways to track this type of information that they are not very reliable.

On the Web, you can use free (or paid for) tracking systems to see where potential clients are clicking and what particular campaigns are bringing you the best results.

This type of information is absolutely imperative to a successful marketing campaign. You can’t improve if you don’t know what’s working and what isn’t.

You Need to Offer Credit Card Payments

Credit cards are quickly becoming the method of choice when paying for items. I personally use my credit card to pay for everything except the maid!

On the Internet it’s either difficult or impossible to sell anything unless you offer the option for people to pay using their credit cards.

The benefit to you is that you can automate your entire sales process and you can even offer high ticket items which people would then “Finance” using their credit cards.

I’m not sure how it works in other countries but in South Africa you can offer budget payments. This allows you to sell something that costs R 15,000 through your web site and, provided that you have the facility available, people can select to pay their credit card companies back over a period of up to 48 months. (It might be longer than that.)

So not only is it important for you to offer credit card payments but it also works to your benefit.

Now that you know some of the major differences between offline marketing and online marketing, you can begin working on your online marketing methods which can only have a positive impact on your bottom line!

Naz Daud asked:

As a business owner, you’ve likely heard there are loads of opportunities for you to do well through advertising on the internet. However, for many new entrepreneurs, this can be a hard thing to get your head around. In the extremely competitive internet world, it’s simply not enough to have a decent website. You have to know how to market it, and how to successfully turn visitors into paying customers. In this article we cover some of the most popular strategies used by internet marketers.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Search engine optimisation is the process of making changes to your website so that it ranks higher in the search results. Website owners usually want their website to rank highly for words that relate to their business. If you own a London pizza takeaway, you would probably want to show up for words like “pizza takeaway”, “London pizza” and “pizza”. If this sounds like something that could benefit your business, you should learn more about search engine optimisation or hire the services of a search engine optimisation firm to make changes to your website’s code and internet marketing strategy.

Pay-per-click (PPC) Marketing

Pay-per-click marketing is very similar to SEO but much more expensive. Your website shows up for keywords that are related to your business on the right of the natural search results. However, with pay-per-click, you pay the search engines to make your website appear higher for the keywords that are relevant to your business. And you only pay them money when a visitor clicks on your advert.

Social Media Optimisation (SMO)

Social media optimisation is advertising your business using some of the web’s most popular websites. There are literally millions of people on websites like Ecademy, MySpace, Facebook, YouTube and Digg. You can make yourself, or your business, popular on these websites and you may find that you achieve great results if you develop decent relationships. A social media strategy is takes time to pull off, and requires a good understanding of the communities that exist on the websites you’ll be targeting. Some business owners use the services of social media consultants to make it easier.

Banner Advertising

Banner advertising is the internet equivalent to newspaper advertising. You can have your banner adverts appear on online magazines, blogs and newspapers. One thing that’s particularly effective about online banner advertising is that you might be able to find a publication that’s exactly targeted to your customers. For example, as a curtain manufacturer, you may be able to find a website that exclusively talks about curtains.

Blogging

Blogging is becoming an extremely popular internet marketing strategy. Blogging is where you write articles and posts about your business, your industry and your company. You will then aim to get people interested in your business or your industry after reading your blog as a source of news, analysis and opinion.

Blogging, like social media, isn’t simply a case of paying for advertising exposure. There is a degree of skill involved, but those that manage to forge a successful blogging strategy often experience great results.

For someone who is new to the whole concept, taking on the task of online marketing may seem daunting. It does not have to be. The most successful and experienced marketers all started from square one and went through the same learning processes as everyone else.

If you have had an interest in internet marketing, then starting small, supplied with a bit of knowledge is the best way to start developing an income. Once your income begins to grow, you’ll have already learned a lot more about advancing your methods, and therefore will be able to expand upon your income, and your future techniques.

One of the biggest problems for any business owner is knowing what to do in their business on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Most people don’t have a clue and stumble from one thing to another.

This ad hoc approach is a recipe for disaster. Would you get in a car and just start driving without knowing where you are going. Of course not!

So how do you expect your business to grow without an effective marketing maintenance plan.

Here’s a simple plan to keep you on track.

Top 5 Reasons You Should Market Online

James Copper asked:

With Internet technology on the rise, almost every business has a website that offers information and/or the company’s services or products to customers. In order to further promote their site and services, businesses have begun utilizing Internet marketing strategies to drive more traffic to their site, increase their sales and bring their website and business to a whole new level.

Though many are jumping on the online marketing bandwagon, some companies, particularly smaller or home-based businesses, are weary of the new technology and have yet to take the plunge. Here are the top five reasons why every company, small or large, should market their services online:

1) More Customers

Marketing online will dramatically increase your pool of potential customers. With billions of people using the Internet each day, you’re bound to get more recognition with online marketing than through traditional forms of advertisements. By adding a contact email to your website, you’re enabling people to contact you and provide their information, proving that you’re reachable and interested in their feedback.

2) Networking

Internet marketing allows you to network with people that you would have never met otherwise. Along with potential customers, millions of other business owners and companies market online and use the Internet to network with others. Joining newsgroups and networking communities allows the opportunity for business deals and sales that would have never been possible.

3) Freedom Of The Web

A great thing about marketing on the Internet is that you don’t have to see your customers in person. You’re free to sit at home or in your office wearing pajamas speaking to potential customers through the web. It is your website, not you, that the customers are seeing so you don’t need to worry about your own professional appearance. It is, however, important to make sure that your site represents everything your company is about and does it in a professional, tasteful manner.

4) Several Options

There are so many different ways to market online, that it’s almost inexcusable to not take advantage of the technology. With so many different online marketing techniques available, you’re sure to find one that fits your needs and targets the type of customers you’re looking for. From article marketing to blogging, ezines to press releases, there are several ways to get your name out there and attract consumers to your site.

5) Less Time Consuming

Because most online marketing methods are automated, it requires very little of your time and effort. After setting up an initial marketing campaign, you have the freedom to sit back, relax, and watch it all unfold. You can purchase software to automate your advertisements or outsource to a marketing company to take care of the work for you. You can set up automatic emails, website updates, podcasts and videos as well as auto-reminders to let customers know that new information is available and ready for their review.

Demetria Zinga, M.S. asked:

If you have a website you’ll need to let the world know about it. This is called internet marketing. Ever since I committed myself to learning about the ins and outs of online marketing, my sales have dramatically increased. Marketing online is a completely different challenge than offline marketing but it has its benefits. If you want to take your website to a different level, drive more traffic, and increase your sales, you need to consider the benefits of internet marketing.

1.) First of all, with internet marketing, you will dramatically increase your world of potential customers and clients by simply having a web presence. With a contact email or web form, you have also proven to site visitors that you are reachable.

2.) Internet marketing allows you to network with people you would not be able to meet otherwise. Joining newsgroups and networking communities allow opportunities for sales that just would not have been likely to happen offline.

3.) You have complete control of your web image without your potential customers ever needing to see you in person. If you are concerned about maintaining a professional appearance, you won’t have to worry about this online. You can slip over to your computer in pajamas, chat with your clients who live clear across the world, and never have to worry about ruining your business profile. How cool is that!

4.) Internet marketing offers a vast variety of ways to add clientèle to your business. With all of the many proven marketing techniques available, you are bound to find one or several that fit your desired level, and you can tweak these strategies and implement them any way you see fit. Be sure to create an internet marketing plan in which you may implement several strategies of online marketing such as: article marketing, blogging, podcasting, ezine marketing, press releases, and directory listings, just to name a few.

5.) Last, but not least, marketing online can become very automated, and require less of your time, focus, or energy, depending on the techniques you use. Not only is there software out there that can automate your marketing processes for you, but there are a world of marketing freelancers who are available for outsourcing, and can dramatically help your business. Try using auto-responders for your mailing lists, and never be afraid to outsource your work. There are ghostwriters available for article marketing as well as specialists in other marketing venues such as podcasting and blogging.

I personally have helped many businesses in the areas of podcast marketing and we’ve found the successes of their podcast marketing ventures to be exponential!

I’ll have to admit, when I figured out how to market my business on the internet, I was ecstatic! All I wanted to do at that point was to help others jump start their marketing plans online as well.

These are just a few of the benefits of internet marketing. I am certain that as you begin to market online, you’ll soon be able to add to this list.

Target Marketing Online for Moms Working at Home

Friday, December 5th, 2008  |  Author By sweably

George Collins asked:

So on to the next section in target marketing. So you have your prospect, you targeted them, they click into your ad, they are on your landing page or your lead capture page. Next what do people do, they try to target too many people at one time. They try to target and here let us just say somebody is trying to target mlm, 1 ups 2 ups, cash programs, courses, you name it, anything and everything that has to do with this industry all on one lead capture page. I am not saying you will not get any op-ins, I am not saying that. But how do we set that up. It needs a better ad.

If you are talking an ad like tired of failing because you do not know how to market in the ad, and the person clicks on your ad, what are they thinking, they are looking for a solution, more information about the ad on your landing page. And the people go off and talk about different things on the landing page. When I come to a landing page I am looking for you to talk more about why I am failing in marketing and what is my solution, what do I have to do. Well, the solution is I am going to share this niche with you, but you need to put your name and email address in here.

You want to give enough information where you are giving them more than what you have in that little tiny ad, but not enough to where you share the whole table of food. You want them to op-in if they are interested, they need a solution to their problem, it this problem fits them, they need to op-in so they can get more information to solve their problem. And then what is next, you send them a thank you page or a sales page of the product that you are selling and you are going to follow up with them with targeted auto responder series, again, talking more about the problem that they have and the solution.

Now, are you going to share more information with them in the auto responder series, yes. I mean you have to teach them something, that is the idea to provide some quality content. Are you going to give away the entire business, no. The solution, every auto responder series, the solution after that page always comes back to the product that you are selling. In my company we have a product that teaches you how to market from a marketing videos to all our ebook selections. We also have ebooks that share ways with you on how to make more money online. We also have ebooks that will help you in self improvement from procrastination to other things.

But the solution to this person’s problem is always going to come back to you product. Let us face it, this whole process of hitting your target market, getting them to come to your page, getting them to op-in in your auto responder series and following up is to sell them on your product. I am going to say that this is a sales industry, this is what this is, sales. It can be a sales process, but you can also look at it as providing a solution for people that are having problems. They choose to buy it, I just provide the solution and the product, and that is how it goes.

This same thing applies to everything you do online. If you are going to be an affiliate marketer online, same thing, if you are trying to sell something that is going to cure a particular disease, you are not going to go out and sell it to the whole world if they do not have that particular disease, one does not have anything to do with the other. So you have to find the keywords of the people that have that particular disease, who are looking for that particular keyword to solve their problem.

And the beautiful thing is when people have an agitation, they are coming and looking, whether they are looking online in the search engines, they are on websites and you have you ads out there on the websites, however you market online, however you marketing off line, in newspapers, magazines, billboards, however else you market off line. When people see the ad, when they come looking for the solution after looking up something, they are looking in a magazine for their particular problems and they see you ad or they are looking online, searching under their problem, they are all coming for a solution.

How to Use Direct Marketing Online to Your Advantage

Chris Burns asked:

The internet is no longer just a potential to make money - that has been realised and built upon years ago. Now it is an evolution of a revolution, an unmistakable silhouette of success that stands and overshadows the real world. Everyone and I mean everyone in every busy city, town and village is wired to the internet. There are more satellites in space providing internet connectivity all over the world than there were more than ten years ago. Google and Yahoo are household names with young upstarts like YouTube, MySpace and Facebook slowly nudging themselves into place. With more than ten million people logged on at anytime and an interface that allows you to reach them in a flash - direct marketing online is big business and this article will tell you how to use it to your advantage.

With digital direct marketing, there is no limit to what anyone can do. The leads and channels that can be utilised online are too many to list down and getting to that volume has become easier and easier. Forums, chat channels, interactive video interfaces, blogs, websites, newsgroups are just some of the examples of these sort of channels. Now digital fax has also become commonplace within networks that direct marketing agents are using to enhance their efforts. With so many ways to reach out to the potential consumer and so many markets out there existing separately and intertwined - direct marketing is big business.

The product is very important. It must be designed in such a way so that it can excite one or more markets. Take for example a new sort of skin cream that has the benefits of clearing skin conditions like eczema, pimples, scars, stretch marks but also rejuvenates and revitalises skin, making it look younger and healthier. Already, you have several markets that this product can attract - people with skin conditions, teenagers with overly active pimples and acne, women above and beyond their 20’s looking to maintain their skin and metropolitan guys. This of course depends on how the product is packaged and branded but you can visualise the example that is given to you. Online, you can reach all of these markets easily, and that is the advantage the internet has over traditional means - low cost, easy access and potential to reach millions at a time.

Another advantage anyone must have is having in their hands a fresh new business list that is updated and renewed constantly over a financial year. A highly targeted business list that provides and points a direction to a market that understands and has a need for the product or service you are selling is as good as gold. It is an important feature that cannot be overlooked because it simply follows a basic tenet of marketing - selling is easier if your market is inclined to buy. It sounds simplistic but it is true. Why would anyone sell meat products to Vegans or a tennis racket to a golf enthusiast? If you can sell it - great but imagine the amount of effort one has to extend to change their minds and make them want that prime sirloin steak!

Don’t over think it. A business list focuses all your efforts and gives you a nudge in the right direction, especially if you’re involved in direct marketing online. The last time I checked, in marketing and especially selling - that is a good thing.

Internet marketing is a necessity in today’s competitive world of the World Wide Web. Helping those who need such advice on Internet marketing is expert advice found in the form of Internet Marketing E-Books.

Internet Marketing E-books are used mainly by those who want to set up a business on the Internet or even Internet Marketing Consultants who provide their clients with tips on Internet marketing. Mostly penned by experts in this field with years of experience in this line, a good E-book can be a helpful guide to setting up your e-business.

There are of course plenty of Internet Marketing E-Books, doing the rounds. But before you choose one randomly give a little thought towards what you exactly seek. Also do not forget to check on the relevance of the expert speak.

Before you consult an Internet Marketing E-Book make sure that the author has used lucid language which makes it easy for the readers to understand what he is saying. If you are a novice in the line of Internet Marketing be sure to use Internet Marketing E-Books that have basic steps to guide you and use less of technical words and more of the layman’s language.

The highlights of most Internet Marketing E-Books are the hands on advice that the author gives you. Such advice or tips are usually based on personal experience that the authors have faced while experimenting with Internet Marketing. In fact the best part about using such Internet Marketing E-Books is that you can avoid the mistakes that others have made and be ably guided in each step of setting up your Internet Marketing ventures.

At times it so happens that any one Internet Marketing E-Book is not sufficient to guide you on all the techniques used for Internet Marketing. In such a case you might refer to several Internet Marketing E-Books, that way you will also get the opinions of different experts and you can corroborate what they have to say and take your final and definitive steps to Successful Internet Marketing.

Good Internet Marketing E-Books should base their guidance on the recent trends and market surveys. Some of the areas they should be advising you on should be:

Good content creation

Email marketing

Proper usage of Keywords

Website development

Importance of Search Engine Positioning

Last but not the least using Internet Marketing E-Books can be a cost effective way of proper guidance for Internet Marketing. This is more so because hiring an Internet Marketing Firm can cost you much more than buying an Internet Marketing E-Book or browsing online for Internet Marketing E-Books material.

You would be well advised, in making a careful choice in selecting Internet Marketing E-Books of your choice. This is because there are plenty of books by authors who have no clue about the latest trends or have not done their research thoroughly before penning a book. Depending on such baseless Internet Marketing E-Books could land you in more trouble and lead your business in

To sum it all up, ebooks are a great way not only to gain knowledge on a specific topic but also a good way to make a nice income online writing your own informative ebook.
